Builders in Freshwater

Freshwater is the next beach north of our Queenscliff office. Houses on the hill, apartments by the beach, and almost every block with a view worth designing around.

Building in Freshwater

Freshwater was called Harbord for most of the last century and took its old name back in 2008. Duke Kahanamoku's surfing demonstration here in 1914 is still on the headland in bronze. The suburb sits between Queenscliff and Curl Curl, climbing steeply away from the beach.

More than half the homes here are apartments, and the houses are on sloping, rocky blocks. So the work tends to be one of two things: a strata renovation that has to keep the neighbours and the owners corporation on side, or a house that needs to go up or down the slope to get more space.

How we work
What to plan for

Four things that shape a Freshwater project

01

Strata approvals

Kitchens, bathrooms and flooring in an apartment usually need owners corporation approval. We prepare the scope and drawings so the approval is a formality, not a fight.

02

Slope and sandstone

Building into the hill means excavation, retaining and drainage. We price it from the start rather than finding it at the dig.

03

Views and privacy

Height and setbacks are where additions here are won or lost, because every neighbour is protecting a view too.

04

Former Warringah controls

Freshwater was part of Warringah, so DAs are still assessed under the Warringah plans until the new Northern Beaches LEP starts.

Why Amity

Four things you get in writing.

01

A flexible pricing structure

A complete itemised price before the job starts, so you can see what each part of the job costs before you commit to any of it, and a pricing structure that suits you.

02

One site supervisor who is on your job

Not running six others. The person who answers your call was on site that morning.

03

A published programme and a weekly meeting

You always know where the project is up to, and what is happening next week.

04

A defects walk, warranties, manuals and a twelve month check

Handover is a process with a date on it, not the day the last trade drives away.

“Jared and his capable team delivered exceptional quality on our apartment renovation. Jared had a thoughtful approach and had great ideas throughout the process. Couldn't recommend Amity enough for your next build or renovation.”

“Jared has finished refreshing my fifty year old unit at Narrabeen. His communication was top notch through the entire process. He made it very clear what I needed to do on my end as the customer and he performed very high quality work every step of the way. Couldn't be happier with how everything turned out.”
FAQ

Building in Freshwater

Do you renovate apartments in Freshwater?

Yes. We have renovated apartments and units across Sydney. Most renovations need owners corporation approval, and structural or waterproofing work usually needs a by-law. We prepare what the strata committee asks for.

Which planning rules apply to my Freshwater house?

Freshwater was in the former Warringah Council area, so applications are assessed under the Warringah LEP and DCP until the new Northern Beaches plan commences, which council expects in 2027.

Can I add a level to my house in Freshwater?

Often, yes. It depends on the height limit, setbacks, the existing structure and the effect on neighbours' views. We check the structure and the controls before you spend money on design.

How long until you can come and look?

Freshwater is a few minutes from our office. We usually arrange a site visit within the week.

Building in Freshwater?

We will come and look, and tell you what it will really cost. The site visit is free.
