Builders on the NSW South Coast

South Coast projects are often the second house, the family house, or the one being built to move into properly. The distance from Sydney makes the programme and the reporting matter more, not less.

Building in South Coast

You should not have to drive down to find out what happened this week. A published programme and weekly reporting exist so that the trip is a choice rather than an inspection.

Coastal and bushfire controls apply across much of the coast, and the councils differ: Wollongong, Kiama and Shoalhaven each have their own plans.

Our director's own cabin, Silent Echo, is in Kangaroo Valley. Amity designed and built it, one weekend at a time over two years.

How we work
What to plan for

Four things that shape a South Coast project

01

Building from a distance

Weekly reporting, photos and a supervisor who answers the phone.

02

Bushfire

Much of the coast is bushfire prone, which sets the construction standard.

03

Coastal exposure

Materials and fixings chosen for salt and wind.

04

Three councils

Wollongong, Kiama and Shoalhaven each run their own controls.

Why Amity

Four things you get in writing.

01

A flexible pricing structure

A complete itemised price before the job starts, so you can see what each part of the job costs before you commit to any of it, and a pricing structure that suits you.

02

One site supervisor who is on your job

Not running six others. The person who answers your call was on site that morning.

03

A published programme and a weekly meeting

You always know where the project is up to, and what is happening next week.

04

A defects walk, warranties, manuals and a twelve month check

Handover is a process with a date on it, not the day the last trade drives away.

“I have had the best experience renovating and adding to a property with a team of very professional, skilful, communicative and courteous tradies led by Jared, the builder, who has been a pleasure to work with and who is a great people person and manager. … This organisation provides all the detailed steps needed from beginning, throughout the project and including completion. As the owner I have felt welcomed and involved and a part of the team all through the project. As some decisions needed to be made along the way, we discussed options and the outcomes have very much proven to be successful and the correct decisions. … Communication and openness have been fostered by the leadership team of Jared and Angus (foreman), and appreciated by everyone involved including me. I very highly recommend this leadership and team — they will not disappoint.”

“The team at Amity D&C really impressed us with their approach to project design, helping us shape our ideas into reality. They involved us in all the decision making throughout, while providing valuable guidance. What really stood out was the team. We felt supported at every stage by a team who were not only highly skilled but also genuinely friendly and approachable. We were happy to have them around and would not hesitate to recommend Jared and the team to anyone looking for a builder who truly cares about both the project and the people behind it.”
