Silent Echo Cabin

Silent Echo Cabin on its hillside in Kangaroo Valley, charcoal-black cladding above a wraparound deck, the escarpment behind
The project

Silent Echo is Jared's own cabin in Kangaroo Valley, designed and built by Amity, one weekend at a time over two years. It was born from a simple idea: a place where time slows down, nature takes the lead, and life's simplest moments become the ones you remember most.

The brief
“Quiet beginnings, lasting echoes.”
The idea behind the name
Freestanding bath on the deck against the charcoal cladding, the valley beyond
Terracotta-rendered shower wall with a recessed niche and a black mixer

The design

Shaped by the valley.

The design draws inspiration from the resilience of Kangaroo Valley after the devastating bushfires. The charcoal-black exterior reflects the strength of the Australian bush after fire, while the soft green interiors represent renewal, growth and the quiet return of life. Earthy timbers, natural textures and warm terracotta tones echo the colours of the surrounding landscape.

Every detail has been carefully considered, not only to create a beautiful retreat, but to honour the valley that inspired it. Built with patience, craftsmanship and a deep appreciation for this remarkable landscape.

The name reflects what it is for: a place where the world becomes a little quieter, mornings begin slowly, and the memories you make linger long after you have returned home. Morning coffee on the deck, a bath beneath the stars, a meal by the fire.
